OUR FAMILY

The Old Lahaina HouseThree generations live in the Old Lahaina House, a family owned and operated B&B-style Lahaina inn.  Established as the family’s dream home, Sherry & her late husband John, a local Lahaina musician; settled into idyllic island living with their three children and Sherry’s parents. In 1995, the family opened their spacious home to visiting island guests, creating a popular and gracious bed and breakfast.  Having long been involved in the tourism industry as owners of a parasailing company, they were excited to share Maui’s magical attractions with their guests.  But in 2001, John was killed in a tragic traffic accident, leaving Sherry as the sole proprietor for the accommodation and breadwinner for the family.

Fortunately, Old Lahaina House was one of the few permitted bed and breakfast establishments in Lahaina and demand was strong.  Sherry expanded her business to include an activities booking service started at her kitchen table, which she has now relocated to a restored plantation-cottage in downtown Lahaina.  Her cheerful attitude and enduring strength continues to brighten the grounds of the Old Lahaina House, as she welcomes new guests and greets returning friends.

About the Old Lahaina HouseThe family all pitches in. Her oldest son handles property repairs, construction and property management; her daughter (a star athlete and Seabury Hall graduate) helps with marketing while heading up an electric touring car business; and her youngest son takes piano lessons, learning music in memory of his father. Sherry has a large “hanai” family that works with her, including Satoko who coordinates Japanese tourism and oversees all accounting and administrative operations; Satoko’s husband Hiro who does the landscaping; Adam who manages the activity booking company and hostel accommodations; and her eldest son’s girlfriend, Aimee, who organizes events and weddings.

When visiting the Old Lahaina House, expect to see a bustling home of family life, including the resident pets: a dog and several cats.  The family has long been supporters of Maui’s Humane Society and involved in many charitable causes.  Their deep love of Maui and kama’aina knowledge is best shared through the operation of this Lahaina inn.
